Spanish baritone Carlos Alvarez is one of the brightest rising stars in the world of opera. Since his debut in 1990, Alvarez has appeared at the most important European opera houses and Festivals. He has worked with eminent conductors such as Chailly, Maazel, Davis, Santi, Martínez, Zedda and Marbá. Plácido Domingo’s esteem for the younger singer’s talents led to concerts together in Frankfurt, Berlin, Bonn, Madrid, Cannes, Tokyo, Washington and New York (at the Metropolitan Opera).

Nine of opera’s most famous arias for baritone are featured on this disc, including four from Verdi’s works. Alvarez is accompanied by the Basque National Orchestra, which has appeared on two previous recordings in Claves’ new series dedicated to the music of Basque composers, here under the adroit direction of Swiss conductor Mario Venzago.

Alvarez’ immense musicality, vocal prowess and dramatic expression and the brilliant orchestral accompaniment combine to make this CD one of this year’s highlights!

Depuis ses débuts, il chante dans les théâtres et les festivals les plus importants d'Europe et sous la direction d'éminents chefs d'orchestre tels que Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Colin Davis, Nello Santi, Gòmez Martínez, Alberto Zedda et Ros Marbà. Der junge spanische Bariton Carlos Alvarez ist einer der neuen Sterne am Opernfirmament. Seit seinem Debüt 1990 singt er an den bekanntesten Opernhäusern und bei bedeutenden Festivals in Europa. Alvarez ist ein gesuchter Sänger für berühmte Dirigenten wie Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Colin Davis, Nello Santi, Gomez Martinez, Alberto Zedda und Ros Marbá. Die Wertschätzung Placido Domingos führt zu gemeinsamen Konzerten in Frankfurt, Berlin, Bonn, Madrid, Cannes, Tokyo, Washington, und New York (an der Metropolitan Opera).

Die Aufnahme vereint neun bekannte Opernarien für Bariton, vier allein von Verdi. Carlos Alvarez wird vom Baskischen Nationalorchester begleitet, mit dem Claves auch eine Reihe von Werken baskischer Komponisten einspielt. Die Leitung hat der Schweizer Dirigent Mario Venzago.
