SCHUMANN: THE COMPLETE WORKS FOR PIANO, VOL. 5
There is a gap of 20 years between the early Impromptus op.5 and the Gesange der Frühe op. 133; ultimate opus which Schumann completed just before losing his mind. And yet there is a thread – albeit thin – that links all these works; the taste for miniature; childhood nostalgia; the epic surges and constant duality of feelings.
This is Cédric Pescia’s second contribution to this unique collection of complete works; for which several musicians have been invited to share their passion and enthusiasm for the piano works of a genius who never ceased to fascinate; surprise and move us; at the very heart of our lives.
Cédric Pescia recorded this fifth opus of Robert Schumann’s complete piano works in the middle of winter 2010; in a magical; snow-covered Berlin. The recording took place in the Siemens-Villa; in what was at the time the private concert hall of one of the members of the famous German industrials; on a New York Steinway built in 1901; whose rich sound quality is subtly and naturally suited to these fascinating pieces.
