Boulouris 5 – Tango Nuevo / Astor Piazzolla – Live in Vevey/Switzerland
A violin, a guitar, a clarinet, a double bass and a bass clarinet – five instruments, five young artists from classic or jazz music whose paths should cross as if by chance with Astor Piazzolla and Argentinean tango. And to what a delight! In search of a freedom that transcends their “traditional”work in music they soon found themselves captured by the gravitational attraction of the music of this uncontested master of the tango, in particular, by Tango Nuevo, which Piazzolla founded and upholded throughout his life. And this without a bandoneon! Tango Nuevo? A combination of tango and contemporary classical music, at its beginnings reportedly too complex to be danced to, and constantly criticized for breaking all the rules of tradition. A music in which pulse and rhythm play a central role. The works on this recording present a mixture of different tango periods as Piazzolla experienced them:fugue, theme and variations, milango, minimalism, concertante form, jazz, etc.
