Tomás Garbizu (1901-1989) - Basque Music Collection Vol. VIII

The eighth volume – already!– of the recording adventure that has united Claves Records and Basque music. The eighth occasion to discover a new world of sonorities and the trajectory of a new composer: Tomás Garbizu Salaberría, born 12 September 1901 and died in San Sebastían 27 November 1989 after having taught organ there for some three decades. But Tomás Garbizu was above all a composer, and he left behind a prolific collection of works: a great deal of sacred music, choral music, songs, organ music, oratorios, zarzuelas... This recording presents five vocal works, the most representative from his catalog of works, edited especially for this recording by composer Tomás Aragües. Under the direction of conductor Cristian Mandeal the Basque National Orchestra is joined by a group of eminent soloists including the Orféon Donostiarra choir and harpist Xavier de Maistre.
