The Complete Schumann String Quartets

Students of the great Gábor Takács-Nagy at the Geneva Conservatory and winners of the first prize at the Geneva International Competition in 2001, the Terpsycordes Quartet is one of the most promising young ensembles of its generation. This disc represents their first commercial recording and is dedicated to Robert Schumann’s string quartets. The preparation and experience behind this disc was profoundly marked by their research and study together of the original scores. They explain this in the accompanying booklet, specifically providing witness to the difficulties in the interpretation of music “written for two hands at the piano” and whose elastic phrasing “is very reminiscent of song”. It is music that they learned to tame, particularly through an intensive period of concertizing that gave great polish to their interpretations.
